My experience with Beyerdynamic dt770/990 Quick post: I've had the DT770 for 6 years now, recently got the DT990. Did a quick compare and contrast Between several genres including: baroque era, classical era, doom metal, jazz, and death metal (not an all encompassing list I know). Sound wise though, like u/AMindOfMetalAndFeels mentioned, one is closed back, the other is open, and the driver types are totally different, so it's a hard comparison to make.
